5 Steps To Finish 2020 Strong

5 Steps To Finish 2020 Strong

December 7, 2020 0 By REW

Daniel’s wife was crying.

And I could tell he was on the verge of tears.

“Craig,” he said, “this was the hardest decision I’ve ever had to make.”

I knew what he was about to say next … We saw this coming from the first day the government forced the shutdown of our two gyms in South Carolina.

“Craig, we have to close our Greenville gym location.”

We both took deep breaths… and I exhaled for what seemed like two hours.

“Control what you can,” I told myself, reciting the mantra from my Perfect Day book, “And cope with what you can’t.”

Daniel and his wife Britt had been running our two gyms for over five years.  But with the 3-hour drive time between Charleston and Greenville.  Combined with having two kids under five … And a commitment to marriage over business…

Throw in COVID … And that gives you the same formula that has caused 60% of small businesses in America to shut down for good this year.  It was an agonizing decision that will impact some amazing people…

But on December 31st, I’ll be officially closing one of my two gyms.  Now don’t worry too much.  Because just as I’d tell you to do, I’m looking at silver lining.  We helped all of our team members find new personal training job.  We helped all of our customers get set up at another nearby Fit Body Boot Camp location.  And the shutting of one door opens up another…

Because now Daniel and Britt can give their full focus to our thriving location in Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina.  In fact, if everything returns to even just some semblance of normal, we should be making more money next November from one gym than we were doing between the two.  That said, a LOT of work is necessary to make that happen…

But we have a plan.  The blueprint is below.  And so no matter where you are in your business, whether you’re having a record year like my coaching business…

… or if you were on the verge of shutting down like my one gym…

My goal is to help you finish strong and come back stronger in 2021.  Follow these 5 steps and you will dominate December and set yourself up for massive success in the New Year.

1. Develop A Growth Mindset

If you’re not focused on developing your mindset, your skills, and behaviours…

It won’t be long before your bank account begins to dwindle and your ability to succeed in our competitive world all but fades away.  In these ever-changing times you must be learning and evolving and getting 1% better every day.  You must keep on getting better if you want to keep up.

2. Innovate Constantly

What got you here won’t get you there.  Read that again.  You must be constantly innovating and reinventing…

I learned this years ago in my fitness business, when I realized I couldn’t just create Turbulence Training as my one fitness product and ride that out for the rest of my life.  That simply wasn’t going to cut it.  So I had to continue to innovate and come up with better products and even more appealing offers.  Think of any artist who manages to remain in the spotlight for many years…

J. Lo, the Beatles, Madonna… all of them were constantly evolving.

Your business is no different.  If you don’t want to be a one-hit-wonder.  Your skills, your ads, your copy, your videos all must get better.  How do you do this?

Learn from the masters… and hire a coach.  Every year I personally spend over $100k on coaching and mentoring…

And – without fail – I get a 10x, 30x, even 50x ROI.  Now over to you with…

3. Commit to Your Vision

This one is absolutely key to having massive success.  Once you know your vision you must stick with it instead of bouncing around from one thing to the next.  If you flip from being a realtor for a few months, to being an author, to selling ecommerce…

You’ll just never get traction.  Over the last 20 years of my coaching career, I’ve discovered what TRULY motivates someone to change their life.  It’s not money or stuff.

It’s your BIG WHY… your vision for the business you want and the type of life you want to lead.  Elon Musk nearly went bankrupt in 2008 after dumping 9-Figures from his PayPal sale into SpaceX, Tesla, and Solar City.  If he hadn’t been committed to his vision he would’ve given up and quit…

And he never would’ve created the $600 Billion empire he has today.  What’s YOUR big why?

Maybe you want the financial freedom to live life on your own terms, to be able to give your family anything they could ever need…

Whatever it is… get clear on your vision, and stay committed to it.  Daniel and Britt have a very clear vision… and it allowed them to make a hard decision today so they will have a better future tomorrow.

4. Recruit & Retain Great Talent

You can’t do this alone.  You can’t do it without a coach, you can’t do it without a team.

“It doesn’t make sense to hire smart people and tell them what to do – we hire smart people so they can tell us what to do.”

Steve Jobs said that.  I think he had a point.  Don’t be a boss, ruling from the top down.  Be like Daniel, who spent an entire day talking with our staff and serving them and their futures.  This year has been like a 2-year MBA in leadership for him, and will serve him for the rest of his life.  So…

Set your EGO aside.  Step up your leadership.  And surround yourself with the best of the best.

5. Have the Resilience & Persistence to Make Things Work

Everyday you will get up and get knocked down (especially in lockdown).  But hey, it’s called the Entrepreneur Roller Coaster for a reason.  One moment might be the highest of highs, the next might feel like the most devastating of lows.  It’s true, it can be tough.  Daniel, Britt, and I know this all too well today…

But you’re here – and we’re here – for a reason and you’re going to beat the roller coaster this season through your relentless resilience and commitment to persistence.

Never, ever, EVER give up on what is important to you! (See step #3 to make sure you have your vision!)

With these 5 Keys in place you’re sure to finish 2020 on an upswing…

And you’ll be poised for a great year in 2021.  I believe in you… time for you to believe in you too.

To your success,
Craig Ballantyne
